Performances begin June 2 for the American premiere of David Ireland’s Cyprus Avenue, directed by Vicky Featherstone, at The Public Theater. The acclaimed Abbey Theatre and Royal Court production is scheduled to play a limited Off-Broadway engagement at the downtown theatre through July 29.

Returning to the production from the London run are Stephen Rea, Chris Corrigan, and Amy Molloy, along with new cast members Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo and Andrea Irvine.

Cyprus Avenue tells the story of a British man in Ireland trying to make sense of a radically changed world. A Belfast Unionist and “non-negotiably British,” his sanity begins to unravel when he discovers a likeness between his newborn granddaughter and the Irish republican leader, Gerry Adams.

The new play received acclaimed engagements at London's Royal Court, Dublin’s Peacock Stage at the Abbey Theatre, and the MAC in Belfast.

The American premiere at The Public features scenic and costume design by Lizzie Clachan, lighting design by Paul Keogan, sound design by David McSeveny, and fight direction by Bret Yount.

Cyprus Avenue will officially open June 25.
