The cast of the upcoming West End premiere of Hamilton stepped into the studio October 14 for the first official day of rehearsals. Take a look at the company as they prepare to run through Lin-Manuel Miranda’s score together in the video below.
“I’m kind of nervous about it—as you can see, my hands are shaking—I’m so nervous! But it’s going to be fun,” says Miss Saigon alum Rachelle Ann Go, who will take on the role of Eliza Hamilton.
The official start of rehearsals marked the culmination of a two-week preparation period, during which time Tony-winning music supervisor and orchestrator Alex Lacamoire guided the company through the music. “Everyone is so well prepared,” he says. “You can sense everyone having a good time; you can sense people really getting into the music. It’s been such a joy to see this music be embodied in this way.”
The cast is led by Jamael Westman as Alexander Hamilton and Giles Terera as Aaron Burr, with Rachel John as Angelica Schuyler, Michael Jibson as King George III, Jason Pennycooke as Marquis De Lafayette and Thomas Jefferson, and Obioma Ugoala as George Washington.
The Thomas Kail-helmed production will begin December 6 (after being pushed back from the initially announced November 21), with opening night set for December 21.
The Broadway production plays the Richard Rodgers Theatre as the Chicago sit-down and national tour (currently in Los Angeles) continue their runs. An additional staging heads to Puerto Rico in 2019; Miranda will reprise his performance in the title role.
