The Broadway revival of Carousel played its highest-grossing week in its first full week of performances after officially opening April 12. The Jack O’Brien-helmed production, starring Jessie Mueller, Joshua Henry, and Renée Fleming, grossed $1,282,413 and played to 92.4 percent capacity in the week ending April 22. Average ticket price rose to $121.50, matching the average of shows across the board.
Meanwhile, the new musical Mean Girls also took in its highest gross since beginning last month, reaching $1,469,881 (over 100 percent of its potential).
Overall, total grosses were down slightly compared to the week before, though this can in part be attributed to the number of shows inviting press in around opening nights. Average ticket price should increase for new shows following these performances, with some shows seeing a further rise depending on the Tony nominations, to be announced May 1.
