Jim Parsons, who will return to Broadway this season in The Boys in the Band, will star in an upcoming film adaptation of Matthew Lopez’s play The Legend of Georgia McBride. The Emmy winner will play seasoned drag queen Miss Tracy Mills in the Fox 2000 and New Regency project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The play follows Casey, a young, straight, down on his luck Elvis impersonator who helps revitalize a run-down bar after finding unexpected success as a drag queen (with help from Miss Tracy Mills). Lopez will adapt his script for the screen.

The comedy premiered at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in 2014 before subsequently playing Off-Broadway’s MCC Theater and the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. It has since played numerous regional markets.

The Big Bang Theory star will also produce the film with Todd Spiewak. Eric Norsoph will executive produce.

Parsons will take on the role of Michael in The Boys in the Band beginning April 30, appearing alongside a cast that includes Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, and Robin De Jesús. His previous stage credits include An Act of God, Harvey, and The Normal Heart.
